The Chemung County District Attorney’s Office is seeking full-time Assistant District Attorneys. Applicants should exhibit a strong interest in criminal law, and be interested in fast-paced, hands-on courtroom experience, with many opportunities to grow professionally.

Applicants should expect early opportunities for discovery, motion practice, hearing and trial work in Elmira City Court, Chemung County Court, and 14 Justice Courts.  Applicants have the opportunity to do both grand jury presentations and Appellate Division practice. Additional opportunities are available for those attorneys interested in specialty courts, such as Chemung County Drug Treatment Court, Veterans Court, Domestic Violence Court, DWI Court, Mental Health Court and Child Advocacy.

The unique size of the office affords each Assistant District Attorney the opportunity to maximize his or her experience. Each attorney has the ability to fully engage in all aspects of the practice of criminal law, to collaborate with law enforcement, and confer with the District Attorney himself. The District Attorney values a staff with a diverse background of experiences, proficiency and expertise.

Qualifications:

Candidates should be duly admitted to practice in New York State in good standing. However, candidates who are sitting for the bar exam or pending results should apply as well.

Residency:

Applicants will need to live within New York State in Chemung County or within 60 miles of the Chemung County border upon being hired.

Compensation:

Starting Salary: $92,250 per year for an entry level attorney. Non-entry level attorneys have the potential of a salary up to $128,300 per year, based on their level of experience.
