The Chemung County District Attorney’s Office is seeking motivated, dedicated and ethical attorneys to join our team. We are hiring multiple attorneys for both experienced and entry level positions.

This position offers hands-on courtroom experience, meaningful responsibility early in your career, and the opportunity to serve the community of Chemung County in a fast-paced and supportive prosecutorial office.

About the Position

Assistant District Attorneys in Chemung County handle a broad range of criminal matters and are actively involved in all stages of prosecution. We value professionalism, collaboration, and integrity in prosecution. Our attorneys come from diverse backgrounds, and work in an environment where mentorship, skill development, and ethical prosecution are prioritized. Attorneys work closely with law enforcement agencies and the District Attorney.

Attorneys can expect early opportunities for:

●        Motion practice and discovery

●        Court appearances and hearings

●        Trial work in Elmira City, Chemung County, and 14 other Justice Courts

●        Grand jury presentations

●        Appellate Division practice

Qualifications

Applicants admitted to practice law in New York State are preferred, however applicants awaiting bar exam results will be considered as well.

Residency Requirement

Once hired, Assistant District Attorneys must reside in New York State, in either Chemung County, or in any of the following counties: Allegany, Broome, Cayuga, Chenango, Cortland, Livingston, Madison, Monroe, Onondaga, Ontario, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Tioga, Tompkins, and Yates counties.

Compensation & Benefits

• Starting salary: $95,479 per year for entry-level attorneys
• Experienced attorneys: Salary up to $128,300, based on experience
